The Witness EP

Back in 2005, when Âme founded Innervisions alongside Dixon, nobody could have predicted the imprint would become the defining label of a generation. The Witness EP marks that label’s landmark 100th release—co-curated by Dixon himself—and arrives as the duo’s first single on their own imprint in eight years, since Tatischeff. It is, by any measure, an event; that the title track also happens to feature the extraordinary voice of K Á R Y Y N makes it something closer to a statement.

Title track The Witness sets the tone: a slow-burning seven minutes in which K Á R Y Y N’s spectral vocal hovers over a bed of swelling pads and a patient, four-to-the-floor pulse. The production is typically immaculate—her voice sits deep in the mix, drenched in reverb and treated as just another instrument rather than the centrepiece, whilst a shimmering arpeggio climbs gently beneath. It builds across its full 7:04 runtime, tension accruing in layers until the final minute lets it all spill out.

And End stretches to 8:13 and is the EP’s deepest excursion, a heady, hypnotic drift of muted chord stabs and off-kilter percussion that feels built for the afterhours rather than the main room. What The Hell snaps back into focus, all swagger and rubbery bassline—the loosest, most playful moment here, and the one most likely to find its way into a peak-time set.

Closing track Pink Elephant brings things down gently, its airy pads and soft, dusty melody lingering like smoke. It’s a comedown track in the truest sense, and it rounds the EP off with a lightness that offsets the weight of everything that came before it.

As the 100th release on a label that has shaped melodic house and techno for sixteen years, The Witness EP feels less like a number and more like a reaffirmation. It’s not a floor-burning record—it doesn’t need to be. What it offers is four meticulously crafted tracks that reward attention, a vocal performance of real beauty, and a quiet reminder that Innervisions’ golden touch remains very much intact.
